Why do we continue blaming Black girls for the choices and misconduct of grown men?

In this episode of Need to Know with Dr. Nsenga Burton, presented by A Black Executive Perspective, Dr. Burton uses the public conversation surrounding Brandy’s teenage relationship with Wanya Morris as the starting point for a larger discussion about adultification bias, victim blaming, and the sexual exploitation of Black girls.

She challenges the “fast girl” stereotype, the glorification of abuse involving young boys, and the cultural hypocrisy that demands accountability in some cases while making excuses in others. Dr. Burton also connects today’s attitudes to the historical exploitation of Black girls and the policing of Black women’s bodies.

This is a direct call to stop judging children through an adult lens, hold grown people accountable, and give Black children the protection, empathy, and humanity they deserve.

Content Warning: This episode contains direct discussion of sexual abuse, exploitation, and the mistreatment of minors.
